Each year the Charles L. Sommers Alumni Association, Inc. provides seasonal staff members with a gift to support them in their role and to recognize their years of service.
In the summer season, all first year staff members receive a $35 credit at Northern Tier’s Trading Post to assist in purchasing any necessities. A custom XY Company canoe paddle is presented to second year staff members. The paddles are unvarnished so the owners can decorate it before finishing. Those returning for their third year are given a guide pack. The packs have the SAA’s “Twilight paddlers” logo, the year and the recipient's name embroidered on the pack flap. A fillet knife is presented to fourth year staff members. Returning staff members in following years are given a choice of art prints from canoe-country artists Bob Cary or Réal Bérard.
In the winter season during Okpik, all first year staff members receive a $35 credit at Northern Tier’s Trading Post to assist in purchasing any necessities. Second year staff members are presented with a neck gaiter with a SAA’s logo and leather choppers (great for working with sled dogs). A steel vacuum bottle with the SAA’s logo is given to third year staff members. Fourth year staff staffs are awarded a quality headlamp.
The Charles L. Sommers Alumni Association, Inc. hopes that these recognitions will be paid forward by future generations of alumni.
